About

Crystalise is an action/puzzle game for the Sony PSP.
It uses a highly modified version of Shine & Nevin's LuaPlayer.

Most of the functionality is contained in about 2600 lines of Lua code, but I implemented some fairly game-specific performance-critical methods in C. I also rewrote most of LuaPlayer's graphics code to use OpenGL and added some (graphical and other) features.

All images and sound effects were also made by me, so you should be aware that this is programmer's art.

Screenshots

Here are some screenshots to show off Crystalise's look. Note that many effects like screen flashes or motion blur look better in motion.

Download

Download Crystalise here.

Note that the current version will only run on 1.5 PSPs. If there is enough demand I may try to provide a 2.0 version for Fanjita's launcher.

If you're considering posting this to a frequently visited site, please mirror the archive download and link here for more information. Thanks!

FAQ

  1. How do I play?
There's a help file included in the download. Read it, it was a lot of work ;). It's also online here.
  2. Why does closing a new circle not work? The Word "Hasty" flashes onscreen.
You can only reduce the area of the circle by 50% at once. Else, the game would be a bit trivial.
  3. Why is it called Crystalise?
Because it sounded cool at the time. No, seriously the game concept was quite different in the beginning...
  4. Why are your movements restricted just the way they are?
Because that's what seems like the best way after lots of playtesting.
  5. How do you manage do be so incredibly productive while still keeping up with all the important RL stuff?
    I don't.
  6. How can I contact you?
Either email me at the address below or come to the #luaplayer channel on freenode.
